History
After the establishment of the University of Forestry and Wood Technology in Zvolen in 1952, in the same year, the school agreed to use the Kyslinky forest district of 2,980 hectares, which was located about 25 km from Zvolen.
Since for a number of reasons (small area, transport, distance, etc.) this solution was not convenient for the school needs, it was necessary to establish a separate school forest plant in the vicinity of Zvolen, where the school was located.
These efforts were completed on 1 January1958 by the foundation of a special purpose-built facility of the University of Forestry and Wood Technology under the name of Faculty Forest Management. The Enterprise Directorate of the Forests of the Slovak Republic, state enterprise in Banská Bystrica, allocated for this purpose forests with a total area of 5,375 ha. Ing. Vladimír Bella became the director of the newly established purpose-built facility.
After organisational changes within the Ministry of Education, in 1961 the Faculty Forest Management changed its name to the School Forestry Plant. At that time the organisational structure was as follows: headquarters and four forest districts - Sliač, Sielnica, Kováčová and Budča. In those days, the headquarters was at the former university campus of the University of Forestry and Wood technology.
The School Forestry Plant headquarters until 1975
As the original area no longer corresponded to the teaching needs or the requirements of the plant's economy, in 1965, after agreement with the Enterprise Directorate of the Forests of the Slovak Republic (ŠL-PR) in Banská Bystrica, other forests were added to the original area, thus the total area increased to 7,738 ha. Later, it was expanded to 7,989 hectares, by transforming the abandoned and non-productive land in favour of the forest fund. A new forest district Železná Breznica was added to the territory by taking over other forest parts.
Gradually the School Forestry Plant (ŠLZ) acquired the character of an independent enterprise. In 1969, its name changed to School Forestry Enterprise of the VŠLD (University of Forestry and Wood Technology). From 1965 to 1970, Ing. Branislav Baka replaced Ing. Vladimír Bella. In 1970, Ing. Bella returned to the position of the director.
In 1975, the headquarters of the School Forestry Enterprise moved to Štúrova Street, to the wooden building in the yard of the former Rector’s Office of the VŠLD (University of Forestry and Wood Technology).
The headquarters of the School Forestry Enterprise (ŠLP) from 1975 – 1989
The increasing levels of technical equipment at the School Forestry Enterprise (ŠLP) required changes in organizational arrangements. From the original five forest districts, three were created - Sielnica, Kováčová and Budča, and two specialized centres: Centre of Logging Services and Centre of Construction Services.
After Ing. Bella's retirement, Ing. Ján Malko CSc. was appointed as a director. At that time, the headquarters of the School Forestry Enterprise (ŠLP) moved to the reconstructed building on Študentská Street in Zvolen.
Current headquarters of the University Forest Enterprise (VšLP)
By 1 January 1998, the School Forestry Enterprise (ŠLP) took over other forestry parts from the Enterprise Directorate of the Forests of the Slovak Republic (ŠL-PR) Banská Bystrica and two new forest districts - Sekier and Môťová were added. Under Act No.131 / 2002 on Higher Education Institutions, the School Forestry Enterprise (ŠLP) became part of the Technical University since 1 April 2002, with the name University Forest Enterprise of the Technical University (VšLP TU) Zvolen.
On 1 January 2004, a reorganisation resulted in a fusion of forest districts and the creation of forest administration units - Budča, Sekier and Centre of Services Lieskovec. At present, the area of managed forest land is 9,937 ha, of which 9,060 ha is owned by the state.
After Ing. Malko's retirement on 31 January 2004, Ing. Tibor Lebocký became the director of VšLP.
On 21 May 2004, Ing. Ľubomír Ivan was appointed as the director of VšLP.
Between 16 June 2004 and 31 March 2012 Ing. Igor Olajec was director of VšLP.
On 1 April 2012, Ing. Alojz Riško became the director of VšLP. He finished his function on 30 September 2013. During this short period, he started several projects which increased the quality of VšLP.
In the period from 1 October 2013 to 31 March 2014, Ing. Ľubomír Ivan, PhD. was in charge of VšLP and on 1 April 2014 he became the director of VšLP TU Zvolen.
By 1 July 2015, the University Forest Enterprise underwent reorganisation, which resulted in the dissolution of the forest administration unit of Sekier. The forest sections were merged under a single forest administration unit of Budča, which now has eight forest districts.
